“I Am the Forest”: International Audio Performance and Creative Project Week for Children and Teens in Friedrichsdorf

Through the interactive audio walk “I Am the Forest” by the Vienna-based collective VRUM Performing Arts and an accompanying project week from August 31 to September 4, 2026, students in grades 5 and 6 in the special education classes at the Philipp-Reis-Schule in Friedrichsdorf will experience theater, nature, and media work in a unique way. This initiative is made possible by a first-time collaboration with the Hedda and Bernd Höppner Foundation. Together, the partners are piloting an off-season model for the first time: an international guest performance outside the “Starke Stücke” festival, complemented by a multi-day theater education project week.

At the heart of the program is the audio walk “I Am the Forest,” which takes children on a poetic adventure featuring dance, music, and poetry. Equipped with headphones, they immerse themselves in the stories of the forest, follow mysterious trails, and discover its hidden voices. The production combines movement, imagination, and the experience of nature, while also offering a perspective on the forest as an ecosystem worth protecting.

The project week follows directly after the performance and focuses on nature education, media education, and audio and sound work. Particitechniques, and create their own audio pieces that give voice to their perspectives on nature, the environment, and the future.pants develop their own stories, experiment with sounds, language, and recording
